Famous Poker Players and Their Cars

The World Series of Poker is currently going ahead in Las Vegas, which will doubtless spark further interest across the country.

It’s a high-profile event that takes place in Las Vegas, and it attracts tens of thousands of players from across the country. Recently, Dan Cates won almost $1m, with Review Journal explaining how it also brought him his first World Series of Poker bracelet. He won’t be the only one to win big at the 2021 World Series of Poker, but he is the latest in a line of hefty winners. It seems to be a huge win for one person, and it opens doors of opportunity, but for Cates, it is the latest in a line of cashes; he has already won more than $11m playing online.

With that sort of money, an aspirational lifestyle is open to players. Cates might choose to splash out on a new car, like many players before him have. A sports car, or another new type of vehicle, is often a status symbol for those with money that like to show their wealth. After all, the stereotypical image of a poker player is that of a fast-living, high-octane daredevil, as loose with their chips as they are in life. What fits better into that than these cars, owned by famous poker players.

Trickett has never won a World Series of Poker bracelet, but the English player has taken substantial sums back across the Atlantic with him; his career wins stand at more than $10m. He was originally going to be a soccer player, but he turned to the cards when an injury ended that career. His success means he’s been able to buy a car even the world’s best soccer players would be envious of; a Ferrari 458 Italia. In 2015, he crashed into a hedge, damaging the car severely.

It might be easier to make a list of cars Phil Ivey hasn’t owned. The 44-year-old is a petrolhead of the highest order and has had everything from an Aston Martin to a Rolls Royce Phantom. With ten WSOP bracelets and 59 money finishes, he is regarded as one of the finest players of all time. That is reflected in his current choice of car, the superb Mercedes SLR McLaren Roadster. He can often be seen behind the wheel on the streets of Vegas, usually wearing a Lakers jersey. Or Houston Rockets, or Buffalo Bills. Yep, Phil Ivey likes to spread his bets on cars, in poker and his sports teams.
